Abstract

The elderly are defined as someone who is over 60 years of age. An increase in life expectancy indicates an increase in the number of elderly people. Someone who is at an elderly age in the survey has more than one type of chronic disease. Two chronic diseases that are often found in the elderly are diabetes mellitus and hypertension. Elderly who experience chronic disease problems and are expected to experience an increase every year. The top two diseases are said to have the highest mortality and morbidity rates in the world and are also said to be the top-ranked diseases in Indonesia. Community service activities have the aim of detecting chronic diseases in the elderly, namely diabetes mellitus and hypertension, by checking body weight, height, body mass index, blood pressure, and blood sugar. This method of community service is carried out through a health examination, which is divided into three activity processes, namely preparation, implementation, and evaluation. The results of the analysis show that respondents who are the target of community service activities have an age that is classified as elderly. Respondents have a BMI in the overweight category. The majority of activity respondents had blood pressure of more than 140 mmHg and had blood sugar levels of less than 200 mg/dL from a glucometer examination. Respondents in this activity could not be diagnosed as having hypertension or diabetes mellitus, so a more accurate follow-up examination was needed.
