NEUROPATHY SCORES IN ELDERLY DIABETES MELLITUS PATIENTS AT THE GERIATRIC POLYCLINIC OF UDAYANA LEVEL 2 HOSPITAL DENPASAR
Abstract
The most common complication that arises in elderly individuals with diabetes mellitus is neuropathy. People often overlook neuropathy because they rarely feel its symptoms. This study is quantitative with a cross-sectional approach, with a sample size of 89 elderly patients with diabetes mellitus at the Geriatric Polyclinic of RS Tk II Udayana. Data collection was conducted through direct observation by the researcher to assess neuropathy scores using the Ipswich Touch Test. The analysis used was univariate analysis with descriptive analysis. The study found that based on the characteristics of the elderly, there were 65 people (73.03%) aged 60-74, 49 men (55.05%), 32 people (35.96%) with a high school education, and 57 people (64.04%) with diabetes for more than 5 years. The neuropathy score mostly indicated no neuropathy, with 81 people (91.01%), but 8 people (8.99%) still showed neuropathy symptoms. Elderly individuals with diabetes mellitus experience neuropathy after assessment and exhibit symptoms related to neuropathy. The elderly are required to conduct regular self-examinations for early detection.
