Abstract

Breast milk is the main and perfect food for babies which contains almost all the nutrients according to the baby's growth and development needs. Early initiation of breastfeeding is giving breast milk to a baby within the first hour after birth by placing the baby on the mother's chest and allowing the baby to find the mother's nipple. Breastfeeding is the fulfillment of the rights of every mother and child. This community service activity aims to increase the knowledge of third trimester pregnant women regarding Postpartum Early Breastfeeding Initiation (IMD) as an effort to successfully provide exclusive breastfeeding. This activity was carried out in Bungkulan Village, Sukasada District, Buleleng Regency, Bali. The targets for this service are 20 third trimester pregnant women. The service implementation activity begins with giving a pretest, delivering material and information about early breastfeeding initiation through lectures and questions and answers and ends with giving a posttest. The results of this service showed that the pretest score had good knowledge of 20% and the posttest score had good knowledge of 85%. This shows that there has been an increase in third trimester pregnant women's knowledge about the importance of Early Breastfeeding Initiation (IMD) as an effort to prepare for a quality postpartum period to support the success of exclusive breastfeeding.
