The postpartum period (puerperium) is a critical phase following childbirth. This period is highly important for both mother and baby to recover physically and emotionally and to prevent potential complications. This study aimed to describe postpartum care practices, health challenges, and prevention efforts undertaken by the community health center. This research employed a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. The primary informants were postpartum mothers aged 19–45 years. Supporting informants included community health volunteers (cadres) and healthcare workers. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and non-participant observation. Qualitative data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The study was conducted from July to August 2025 in Lelogama Village, South Amfoang District, Kupang Regency. The findings revealed that postpartum care practices included tatobi using hot water, maternal heat therapy (“panggang ibu”), staying indoors for 40 days, consuming porridge and corn, drinking hot water, and taking traditional herbal remedies. The challenges identified were the persistence of home deliveries, limited knowledge regarding breast care, and regulations that had not been implemented effectively. Efforts undertaken by the community health center included health education and socialization programs, cross-sector collaboration, and the establishment of a maternity waiting home at the health center. Cultural practices continue to dominate postpartum care in Lelogama and require a collaborative approach involving healthcare workers, community health volunteers, families, and community leaders to improve maternal and child health outcomes.
