Abstract

Based on the prevalence of menstrual pain in Indonesia, which is 54.89%, half of the adolescents aged 10-24 years in Indonesia experience dysmenorrhea, with a prevalence of 64.25%. This consists of 54.88% primary dysmenorrhea and 9.36% secondary dysmenorrhea. Although dysmenorrhea is a very common complaint among women, many do not visit a doctor or midwife when experiencing this condition. About 30-70% of teenage girls tend to manage dysmenorrhea by taking over-the-counter pain relievers. The aim of this study is to analyze the effectiveness of acupressure therapy in reducing menstrual pain in teenage girls. The research method used is experimental with a one group pretest-posttest design. The population consists of 140 high school students who are menstruating, and the sample size was determined using Slovin's formula, resulting in a sample of 59 individuals. Purposive sampling was then used, resulting in 15 participants for this study. The results indicate that acupressure is effective in reducing dysmenorrhea pain, with a significance value of 0.000. This method offers a non-pharmacological alternative that is accessible and well-accepted by many women. Therefore, acupressure can be considered as an option in the management of dysmenorrhea pain, especially for those who wish to avoid medication.
